The value of ω-3 fatty acids was first recognized by the British physiologist Hugh Sinclair, who in the 40s linked many diseases that plagued Western societies at that time to the lack of these fatty acids. Hugh Sinclair linked insufficient omega-3 intake to atherosclerosis and other diseases in a paper published in 1956 that was deemed so heretical as to cost him his chair at Oxford University. His findings were solemnly confirmed around the 70s and 80s and today omega-3s are considered essential for the proper development and proper functioning of the body.
