Cannabidiol (CBD) & colon cancer

Study: Cannabis Extracts rich in Cannabidiol (CBD), can treat colon cancer.

As we know, cannabis extracts have been reported to be able to cure certain diseases. There have been a number of successful historical anecdotes, leading to increased interest in Cannabis concentrates (RSO, BHO, solvent-free wax, etc.) as a viable treatment option.

A recent study adds a little more oil to the fire. Partly funded by GW Pharmaceuticals, it suggests that cannabis extracts rich in cannabidiol (CBD) may be an effective treatment for colon cancer. “Researchers are treating colon cancer in mice with extracts rich in CBD.”

Research has long shown that the medicinal Cannabis could be beneficial for cancer patients. It is often used to treat the negative effects of chemotherapy and
studies show that the plant could serve as an effective cancer treatment on its own. “A herbal medicine (BDS) with high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) inhibited the growth of tumor cells.”

Cannabidiol (CBD) seems less “stigmatized” than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychotropic cannabinoid responsible for cannabis-related “fixation” and appears to be a promising way to treat a variety of cancers. In turn, CBD has received a lot of attention in recent years. Now, a group of researchers from Italy and Britain report that cannabis extracts rich in cannabidiol (CBD), can help prevent the genesis and spread of colon cancer in mice. Their study was published in the December 27 issue of Phytomedicine.

According to their results, a herbal medicine (BDS) with high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) inhibited the growth of cancer cells, but not healthy ones. The researchers concluded that this action is caused by the activation of CB1 and CB2 receptors on cells.

The study also investigated the effect of pure cannabidiol (CBD) on colon cancer. According to the data collected, pure CBD also inhibited tumor growth. Interestingly, it did this by activating only the CB1 receptors

Broad-spectrum extracts may be the most effective treatment using Cannabis

It has been suggested that isolating cannabidiol (CBD) from the cannabis plant could provide an effective treatment option for those who do not want the stigmatized “fix”. However, the above findings show a flaw in this logic.

Cannabidiol (CBD) certainly has its benefits, but it is not alone in this. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabichromine (CBC), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), and other cannabinoids have been associated with a variety of therapeutic benefits. Terpenes also found in cannabis are believed to improve its effectiveness.

Therefore, an extract that incorporates every ingredient in the cannabis plant is likely to provide the best relief. Of course, a different proportion of cannabinoids will be necessary for each individual, but that is, overall, another discussion.

Note All articles published here refer to information on all cannabinoids, but in Greece it is not possible to access THC (Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol), which is not yet legal in our country.
